Projektbeschreibung

The Fronfeste Museum is located in the center of Neumarkt am Wallersee. The museum is the cultural memory of the region and, with its many innovative events, makes a significant contribution to the cultural diversity of community life.
The building is located directly on the main street of the town, but appears very inconspicuous and reserved compared to other buildings in the city. This situation was not very satisfactory for the municipality of Neumarkt and especially for the operators and visitors of the Fronfeste Museum.

In order to increase the presence in public space, a permanent art installation was created that creates attention and sets a regional example for building culture. The resulting tension between contemporary art and historical context serves as a model for how a lively town center can be filled with contemporary art without losing the regional connection to the historically protected building structure.

The free framework structure that grows out of the museum provides information about current exhibitions and offers the opportunity to present historical objects from the museum as well as contemporary artistic works related to the region as a display depot in public space. (“Out of the Box”)

The installation thus helps to anchor the regional identity of the place as a cultural symbol in the townscape. It is designed as an urban enabling space that can accommodate a variety of events. Be it as an outdoor area for vernis and finissages, a market stall for the museum shop during daytime operations or as a social meeting place for the general public.
