The focus of this project was to reprogram the function of an existing old building, into a multi purpos studio- and residentialbuilding within a corresponding contemporary architectural language. This was achieved with a creative upgrade of the building envelope, which combines the old building fabric with the newly added building volume to form a single unit. The building, positioned on the street side, forms a continuous, consecutive chain with the neighboring buildings, which underlines the grown settlement structure. However, the existing building had to be comprehensively renovated.
The usability of the building was expanded multifunctionally through appropriate conversions and extensions and adapted to today’s standards. This applies in particular to the ground floor zone. It can be used as a separate residential unit or as a studio, office space or workshop. The building is currently divided into two residential units and a multifunctional common room. However, it can also be divided into three individual residential units by means of simple room dividers.
